"Guardian Angels"

Riding the ricocheting waterfalls of icy peril,
wind swirling round narrow walls of jagged rock.
Nature challenging instinctive genes of survival,
skin ripped, shredded , bone and blood now exposed.

Undertow counter attacking my struggling movements,
Bubbles rising skyward, lungs collapsing, bursting inside,
Arms flailing handfuls of icy liquid spheres downward,
Frozen fingertips dangling, rise above crested waves.

Strength non-existent, my stamina  fading fast,
Death taken into overtime, the fat lady takes the stage.
My soul hangs in the balance, is a song on the way?
Cheating both, my guardian angel carries me away.

Bright burning fires rapidly roaring through the forest.
sun soaked yellow daisies left smoldering as dust.
Green leaves brushed by every life's movement,
fighting for survival, death knocking at the door.

Grassy mounds leveled, barely touching the sky,
embossed green footprints filled with ash on the ground.
Driven by blazing heat entering my fleeing backside,
Pushed by raging fire toward a destination unknown.

Heat now engulfing me, air drained, then gone,
Fire all around me, hope ripped from my soul.
Thoughts of you entering my last cells of memory,
your gifts made you special, your love made me strong.

Angels residing in a place where humans can't go,
They drop from the heavens when needed the most.
Some people doubt they exist on this planet,
Some people doubt they ever existed at all.

I've had icy water rip right through my veins,
I've had fire surround me taking all hope away.
I've left the fat lady waiting and death deprived.
If not for guardian angels, I would have never survived.
